Can concealed pipes in homes cause leaks and dampness?

Leakages in our homes are one of the most difficult problems to deal with. They are considered the main source of damp patches in our homes and buildings. What many of us do not understand is whether concealed pipes can be the cause of the leakages and dampness that we experience at home. To find the answer, let’s take some time to learn about the different causes of leakages in homes and here are our findings below.

Can concealed pipes in homes cause leaks and dampness?

The answer to this question is most probably a “yes”. Most of the water leaks in our homes come from the concealed pipes we use during our houses constructions. In most instances, these leaks occur at the joints of this concealed pipes. According to our studies, we did some experiments to see if concealed pipes can cause water leakages in different homes. We observed some characteristics of hidden pipe leaks which include:

At the joints of the concealed pipes, we notice or heard sounds of water still running when water was not turned on.
It was also observed that water bills also slowly crept up over a period of months in homes that had suspected leaks.
Our experts were also able to notice that in places with suspected leaks, water meter readings kept changing even when the homeowners were not using the water.
Another indicator of concealed pipe leak was the presence of foul odors from the walls near the suspected leakage points, as well as warm spots on your floor or walls in case of concrete slabs.
Stains on the ceiling below the slabs were also noticed to be another indicator of a concealed pipe leak.
All the above characteristics prove that concealed pipes are responsible for water leakages in most homes that experienced this problem. Related with the problem of concealed pipe leakage was the presence of damp patches on home walls compared to the other walls.

The water leaking from these pipes can cause great damages to your home. Most of all, it causes dampness on the point of leakage, which can spread over a wide area as the leakage continues. A damp is generally defined as the excess amount of moisture that cannot escape. One main cause of dampness is a sudden rise in the amount of moisture in the building caused by leaks. Small drips of water from the concealed pipes can be responsible for a large damp patch. Even if the amount of leakage is small, its accumulation on the same spot will gradually create a damp patch that will increase in size as more water leaks.

One can consider this as a defect in a home and dampness in a home eats away the beauty of your house. It colludes your house painting, leaving unpleasing patches on the walls, and the ceilings. If the cause is not taken care of it can lead to disastrous results but you can regularly paint over but this can be very expensive. The damp patches can be a conducive environment for bacteria growth and the bacteria can be a good source of diseases in your home and is not good for family members.

Some examples of concealed pipe leaks include the false ceiling leaks, where the pipes behind the false ceilings are the ones causing the leaks. Getting repairs done consists of cutting and patching process, that allows a plumber to access the leaking point. In most instances, the process will take a maximum of two days to complete. Another type of concealed pipe leakage in the wall and leads to cabinet leaks. You can sense these two issues when the pipes concealed in the wall or cabinets start to leak. When these leaks are not quickly repaired, they can be of great damage to your home.

In conclusion, concealed pipes in our homes are among the many causes of leakage and dampness in our homes. However, with different leakage characteristics discussed above, it is easy to find the leakage points in your house. Some of the leakages can be repaired by employing a “Do It Yourself” technique or you can heir a professional plumber to have it done. However, if you are not good at such activities, it is advisable to seek help from a professional plumber. If not repaired immediately, leakages will result in more costly damages. Dampness can be more dangerous to homeowners especially if you intend to sell the home, and it decreases the beauty of your home.

Heaven forbid that such a thing can happen but nobody can predict the future and I wish you all the best.

How To Get Rid Of Icicles

Dirt, dust, victims from accidents, pits, panel slums and much more today is perceived as reality. This is a critical mistake manager and ordinary people – blurry vision and recognition of the surrounding problems with corruptible rule destroy people (gradually or immediately – it does not matter). Many problems can be solved quickly due to the correct design of space, but instead, we are at best trying to deal with the consequences.

About dirt with dust, dangerous streets or harm of the same type of building already wrote. Yesterday I received a letter to the post with a request to tell about another problem of Russia – icicles. We do not have a culture of drainage, because of which roads are destroyed, people break down limbs, or have to wash clothes from splashes and dry their shoes regularly. As you know, this problem is solved – a small one-time reconstruction will save on maintenance or even save several lives. Further the text of the letter without editing, and in the end one more way to keep the streets from icicles.

You could not make a post about where icicles come from?

It turns out that most city dwellers and even officials do not know this, and this is just the case when the problem can be solved by informing.

It has already been eight years since the famous speech of the former governor Valentina Matvienko about knocking the icicles with a laser:

Then everyone paid attention to the words “suckers” and “laser,” but no one paid any attention to the fact that the chief city official suggested developing technologies to combat the investigation and not the cause of the disease.

How To Reduce Heat Input:

Replace the heater on the floor of the attic or add the layer on top, for example, mineral wool, warm the pipes of the heating system well, put a stable door so that the air does not rise from the stairwell.

How to Establish Ventilation.

Another option is to make a series of holes in the wall under the cornice or a lot of dormers on the roof. I saw an inexpensive option, and when many existing ventilation pipes cut into the existing roof, I do not know about the efficiency. But yes, you cannot stop existing dormer windows, as it often happens.

Here, for example, on this roof icicles, this winter did not see, and this is a rare exception. Here there is a continuous ventszazor under the cornice, for some reason the cornice was not sewn at all, and on the reverse side in this attic, there are open holes directly in the wall, that is, the air freely walks in the attic. Pay attention that on this roof the snow lies, on the right in the frame the snow on the roof melted.

Still need to be told that the melting snow on the roofs leads not only to the formation of life-threatening icicles but also:

To the winter leaks of the roof, when the water, resting on the ice dam, rises to the level of roof joints and then flows to someone in the apartment and spoils repairs or soaks the wall and leads to a subsequent collapse of the plaster  to icing of sidewalks under the pipes and in general along the buildings

Some wealthy homeowners solve the problem of icicles by electrically heating the cornice with a cable. In this case, the question passes under the feet of pedestrians. Slipping, of course, is not as scary as getting under the icicle, but it still cannot be called a full-fledged solution.
